York, SC Mr. Eric Christian Mortensen, 57, died Saturday, June 18, 2016, at his home.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, June 22, at First Baptist Church Lowrys with Rev. Jerry Broughton and Rev. Michael Shaffer officiating.Interment will be private.The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM on Wednesday at First Baptist Church Lowrys. Mr. Mortensen was born January 8, 1959 in Charlotte, NC and was a son of the late Raymond Kemper Mortensen, Jr. and Jean Ann McGuckin Mortensen.He was a graduate of Central High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Chattanooga State Technical College.Eric was employed with the SC Department of Natural Resources as a wildlife technician and for many years volunteered with Constructors for Christ.He was a member of Trout Unlimited and an avid outdoorsman.Eric was a member of First Baptist Church Lowrys. He is survived by his wife of more than 25 years, Debra Varnadore Mortensen; one son, Wayne Ellis (Mary) of Wartburg, Tn.; one daughter, Beverly Kring (Bobby) of Harriman, Tn.; one sister, Laura Gladney (Ron) of Soddy Daisy, Tn.; one brother, Glenn Alan Mortensen of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren, Katie, Kinley, Cody, Meagan, Breann, Courtney, and Davey; two great-grandchildren; Samantha Sowle whom Eric loved as a granddaughter; and his beloved and faithful chocolate lab, “Mousse”.Mr. Mortensen was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Kemper Mortensen.
