Mr. Edward Lee Melton, Sr.,90, affectionately known as “Apple Man” or “Big Apple” died Friday, December 28, 2012 at his residence.The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Parkway Baptist Church with Rev. Jay Dorsey officiating.The interment will be in Chester Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Parkway Baptist Church. Born August 28, 1922 in Chester County, SC, Mr. Melton was a son of the late John Jacob Melton and Cora Dodds Melton.He attended the schools of Chester County and was retired from Springs Idustries.He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during WWII.He was the oldest active charter member of Parkway Baptist Church where he formerly served as Deacon, Trustee and took an active “hands on” role in the erecting of the church and parsonage.He was the widower of Helen Odell Melton. He is survived by one son, Edward Lee “Eddie” Melton, Jr. and his wife Miriam of Chester; two daughters, Wanda Roberts and her husband Mike of Lowrys and Vickie Fairfax and her husband Terry of Chester; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and his treasured pet Wally.He was the last surviving member of a family of fourteen.In addition to his wife he is preceded in death by a daughter Peggy G.
