Chester, SC Mrs. Edith Howell Grant, 90, formerly of Chester, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014 at Westminster Towers’ in Rock Hill, SC.The funeral service will be 11:00 Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Reverend Harry Gindhart officiating. The interment will be in Chester Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie Street, Chester. Born June 3, 1924 in Lockhart, SC, Mrs. Grant was the daughter of the late Gordon Lee and Mary Good Howell.She graduated from Chester High School and Perry’s Business College.Mrs. Grant was executive secretary for Springs Industries until her retirement in 1989.She was, for years, an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church serving in many capacities and on various committees. Mrs. Grant was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #15, past president of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and past president of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She loved flowers and gardening and for many years was a member of Garden Gate Garden Club. She is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Sam L. Grant, Jr.; two daughters, Nita G. Robertson of Southport, NC and Sandra G. Thomas of Rock Hill, SC; five grandchildren, Ford Robertson (Ashley) of Raleigh, NC, Bradley Robertson (Niki) of Bristol, TN, Lauren Thomas of Rock Hill, SC, Cole Thomas and Marie Thomas both of Charleston, SC; five great-grandchildren, Margaret, Abigail, Ella, Grady and Catherine Robertson and a sister,Annie Ruth Campbell (Harold)of Williamsburg, VA.
