Chester: Dr. James Monroe Love 85, formerly of Chester died Saturday October 17, 2009, at the Presbyterian Home of Summerville. A memorial service will be held at Purity Presbyterian Church Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at 2:30PM with Rev. William Johnson officiating. A native of York, Dr. Love was born June 8, 1924, to the late William Otis and Mozelle Thomasson Love. Dr. Love attended York County Schools and graduated from York High School, he attended Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama, where he graduated from the school of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Love practiced Veterinary Medicine in Lancaster County and during the Korean War where he joined the United States Army Veterinary Corps. He remained in the Army Reserve Corps, serving twenty eight years, and retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Dr. Love was employed by the APHIS of the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 32 years. He was a member of the Auburn Alumni Association, SC Veterinary Association, and Federal Veterinary Association. He was a former member of Chester Lions Club and member of the American Legion. He was active in the community and a member of Purity Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon and Elder. Surviving are his wife of 60 years Dorothy Smith Love, one daughter Doris Love Woods and husband Robert of Edisto Island, SC, one son James Alan Love and wife Grace of Fort Lawn, SC., one grandson Rob Woods and wife Jessica of Charleston, SC, two great grandsons Davison Russell Woods and Harper James Woods, one brother Hugh Donald Love of York, one sister Emily Love Sutherland of Rock Hill. He was pre-deceased by a sister Mary Lena Love Heustess. The family will receive friends after the service in the Fellowship Hall.
