Douglas Theodore Powell, Sr.

Mr. Douglas Theodore Powell, Sr. 85, died Wednesday, November 8, 2023. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday November 12, 2023 at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Boone officiating. Interment will be in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Sunday at Barron Funeral Home. Mr. Powell was born October 4, 1938 in Reidsville, NC and was a son of the late Theodore Russell Powell and Florence Shiplett Powell. He was a graduate of Chapman High School in Inman, SC and was a retired Veteran of the US Air Force having served during the Korean War and Vietnam. He also worked with Westinghouse, Liberty National and drove a school bus and a commercial bus. Ted loved motorcycles and rode both a Harley Indian and a Goldwing. Ted also was a very giving person and enjoyed helping others. He is survived by his wife of over six years, Sheila Chastain Sanders Powell; four children, Sherry Lynn Powell Tolbert (Chad) of Lexington, SC, Douglas Theodore Powell, Jr. (Stacey) of Jacksonville, FL, David James Sanders of Fort Mill, SC and Lorri Cobb (David) of Fort Mill, SC; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Sandra Powell Rhinehart (Grady) of Inman, SC and several nieces and nephews.
