CHESTER Mr. Douglas Martin Brantley, 71, of Chester passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC following a courageous battle with cancer. Doug, as he was known to family and friends was born on August 16, 1937 to the late Clarence ?Bill? and Thelma ?Tiney? Brantley. Doug was educated in the Chester County Schools and worked for Zenith Engraving, BranTech, and Haddon House.He served honorably in the U.S. Army.His favorite activity was spending time with his family and helping others.He served as teacher and deacon in The First Baptist Church of Chester. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Carolyn Lashley Brantley; three sons, Steve and his wife Susan of Rock Hill, SC, Roger and his wife Bonnie of Chester, and Brad and his wife Lorraine of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Bob Brantley of Fort Mill, SC; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.He was preceded in death by a sister Billie Dennis. Doug received great satisfaction from spending time with his grandchildren, Holly, Nathan, Noah, Lawson and Mary Mitchell. The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 8, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Chester with Reverend Clay Waldrip officiating.Interment will be in Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 ? 7:00 PM on Thursday at Barron Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 518, Chester, SC 29706.
