Miss Dorothy Chase Smith, 92, died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC.A graveside service will be held 12:00 noon Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Trey Hegar officiating.The family will receive friends from 11:00 ? 11:45 am Wednesday at Barron Funeral Home. Born on November 20, 1917 in Providence, Rhode Island, Miss Smith was a daughter of the late Dudley Chase Smith and Maydelle Burrows Stucker Smith.She moved to Chester, SC in 1926 with her parents.She graduated with high honors from Chester High School in 1934 and Cum Laude from Furman University in Greenville, SC in 1938 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and the nickname ?The Singing Senior?.Music was an important part of her life and she was soprano soloist at numerous functions.She taught elementary school in Whitmire, SC for four years and in Chester for thirty-five years.She was active in Chester Education Association, First Baptist Church, Pilot Club, Daughters of the American Revolution , United Daughters of the Confederancy, Genealogy Society, and Purity Presbyterian Church, particularly the choir and Prime Timers.She was a sponsor of Chester Little Theater and enjoyed music, spectator sports and traveling. She is survived by one sister, Mildred Smith Prevatt of Chester; one niece, Cynthia Ann Prevatt of Monroe, NC; one nephew William Dudley Prevatt and wife Vicky of Broken Arrow, OK and one great niece, Karrie Smith and husband Patrick of Lawrence, KS.
