Chester Mrs. Dorothy Smith Love died Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at the Village of Summerville in Summerville, SC.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 6, at Purity Presbyterian Church, 135 Wylie St., Chester, SC. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the fellowship hall of the church. Mrs. Love was born July 29 in York County, SC and was a daughter of the late Joseph Clayburn Smith and Louella Wallace Smith.She was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and the York County Hospital School of Nursing.She joined the U.S. Army and became a Second Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps serving during World War II.After release from service, she was on the staff of the University of Chicago Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois and later at the Chester County Hospital.Mrs. Love was a member of the Variety Study Club and active in community affairs.She was a member of Purity Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Working Circle of Purity Women, a Sunday School teacher, and youth advisor. Mrs. Love was preceded in death by her husband, James Monroe Love.She is survived by one daughter, Doris Jo Love Woods and husband Robert of Edisto Island, SC; one son, James Alan Love and wife Grace of Fort Lawn; one grandson, Harper Robert Woods, IV and wife Jessica of Charleston; two great-grandchildren, Davison Russell Woods and Harper James Woods; one brother, Robert M. Smith of Rock Hill, and two sisters, Mary Jo Smith Rayfield of Rock Hill and Sarah Smith Harkey of Raleigh, NC. Memorials may be made to Purity Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 278, Chester, SC 29706.
