Chester Mrs. Dorothy Mae Brown Bates, 90, died Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in Rock Hill, SC.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. David Sealy officiating.Interment will follow at Chester Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Barron Funeral Home. Born January 18, 1927, in Fayetteville, TN,Mrs. Bates was a daughter of the late Mack Brown and Willie Mae Thomas Brown and the widow of Charles Milton Bates, Jr.She was a graduate of the schools of Tennessee and a retired waitress having worked at several local restaurants.Mrs. Bates was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Chester, SC and loved playing Bingo. She is survived by her two sons, Howard Bates (Diana) of Rock Hill, SC and Charles LaVon Bates (Patricia) of Chester, SC; one daughter, Vera Ozell Beach (Larry) of Huntsville, AL; one brother, Jerry Brown (Sheila) of Tennessee; two sisters, Marie Boles and Dean Conner both of Fayetteville, TN;five grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Bates; two brothers, Charles and James Thomas Brown; and one sister, Inez Curn. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Mission Fund, 610 Calvary Church Road, Chester, SC 29706.
