Chester Doris Hare Whitesides, 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 22 at Westminster Health and Rehabilitation in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The funeral service will be Friday, October 26, at 3:00 PMat First Baptist Church in Chester , South Carolina with Rev Clay Waldrip officiating.The family will receive friends Friday 1:30 PM to 2:30 PMin First Baptist Church Sanctuary.Interment will follow inChester Memorial Gardens. Doris Whitesides was born August 15, 1928 in Rock Hill, SC. She was the daughter of the lateRobert Lee Hare Sr. and Maggie Yongue Hare. Doris was a graduate of Blackstock High School and continued her education at Winthrop Collegegraduating with a degree in music. She was a music teacher in the public schools, taught piano lessons and played for many weddings and funerals , and was organist for Barron Funeral Home for many years. Doris was a member of the Chester First Baptist Church where she served as music director for 31 years. After retiring as music director, Doris continued hermusical talent by starting and directinghand bell groups at church. Doris was chairman of the Bereavement committee at First Baptist Church. In years past, Doris enjoyed tending to her flowers, watching Braves baseball, exercising at the Chester YMCA and having beach time with her family. She had a great love for her family. Doris especially loved being “Mama D” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a good sense of humor and believed strongly that everyone was blessed with a talent or skill that should be used wisely, pleasingour Lord and Savior. She was precededin deathby her husbandof over sixty-seven years, George Patrick Whitesides Jr on July 1, 2018.She is survived by three sons, George Patrick Whitesides III, his wife Trina of Chester, Royce Newton Whitesides,his wife Karen of Chester, Robert Dickson Whitesides , his wife Anne of Lancaster; two daughters,Karen Whitesides Wrighther husband Todd of Fort Mill, Sandra Whitesides Caldwell , her husband Ken of Chester and; 11 grandchildren, George Patrick Whitesides IV and his wife Bailey, Quay Elliott Whitesides and his wife Whitney, Elizabeth Grace Whitesides, Marshall Grant Whitesides and his wife Brittany Bonnie Marie Whitesides, Robert Dickson Whitesides Jr., Margie Sloan Caldwell, Frances Mood Whitesides, Royce Newton Whitesides II and his wife Josie, Maggie Grace Wright, and Kenneth Eames Caldwell IV; 7 great grandchildren; She was preceded in death by two brothers; Robert Lee Hare, Jr. and Judge William Ross Hare, Sr. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Music Fund, P.O.
