ROCK HILL, SC: Mrs. Doris Milholen Derrick, 90, passed away Friday, December 26, 2014 at Brookdale Spring Arbor in Rock Hill, SC.A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Chester Memorial Gardens in Chester, SC with Dr. Ron Richardson officiating.The family will receive friendsimmediately following the service at the graveside. Born December 9, 1924 in Rock Hill, SC, Mrs. Derrick was the daughter of the late Robert Franklin Milholen and Martha Williford Milholen.A 1941 graduate of Rock Hill High School, Mrs. Derrick was employed by the Civil Service and assigned to Marine Corps Headquarters in Washington, D.C..She joined the Marine Corps in 1944 and became the first female Sergeant Major.While based in Naples, Italy and serving in the NATO Joint Force Command, she met and married Marlin Watson Derrick.After retiring from the armed services, they lived in Florida before moving to Chester, SC.Mrs. Derrick was an active member of Chester Church of Christ until moving to Spring Arbor in 2009.Her life was one lived in service to God, country and others. She is survived by two step-sons, Dale Derrick (Paula) of Las Vegas, NV, and Ken Derrick (Judy) of Texas; five nephews, Robert Milholen, Don Selzer, John Milholen, Woody Culp and John Culp; and five nieces, Mary Frances Cloninger, Paulette King, Nancy Wilson, Karon Torrence and Mary Carter.In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by seven sisters, two brothers and several nieces and nephews.
