Donald “Don” Ervin Reed, 81, passed away peacefully Monday, April 28, 2025, at his home with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 1:04 pm in honor of his weekly golf time with family and friends. Services will be held at Wesley Memorial UMC in Chester with Rev. Dan Sullivan officiating and Rick Wessinger delivering the eulogy. The family will receive visitors anytime in the afternoon or evening hours this week at the home and Friday 6pm-8pm, the whole family will be at the Reed home for visitation.

Don was born on July 30, 1943, in Taccoa, Georgia and was the son of the late Tharon L. Reed and Agnes Pruitt Reed. He was a graduate of Chester Senior High school, Class of 1963. He also earned an Associate degree in Industrial Supervision from York Technical College.

A true pillar of the community, Don wore many hats throughout a life dedicated to hard work and service. Known to many as the friendly face at Reed’s Hardware in downtown Chester he was always ready with a helpful hand. Don then built a thriving grass cutting and landscaping business and later managed the Chester office at First Choice Mortgage. Don was an active member of the Dixie Youth Baseball League where he served as President. He also dedicated his time as Scout Leader at Wesley Memorial UMC and was involved in various other civic organizations throughout Chester.

In 1966, Don married the love of his life, his beautiful wife Becky Connor. Together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage, cherishing time with family and friends Don especially enjoyed playing golf with his son, Don and being an active member of Wesley Memorial UMC.

Don is survived by his wife, Becky Connor Reed, and his three children, Lisa Reed Totherow (Ken) of Rock Hill, Kelly Reed Brunet (Jim) of Rock Hill, Don Reed II of Fort Mill. He was also blessed with seven grandchildren who he adored: Kaycee Totherow, Andrew Brunet, Hunter Totherow (Caitlin), Jay Brunet, Reed Brunet, Madi Reed and Sawyer Brunet; along with many nieces and nephews.

All who knew Don knew he had two great passions beyond his love for his wife and family - his faith and his Clemson Tigers. A devoted member of Wesley, he served on various committees and led Bible studies sharing his wisdom and dedication with others. And we all know his blood truly runneth orange.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters: Earlene Reed Sinclair of Chester and Linda Reed Jewett of Lancaster.
