CHESTER: Mr. Donald Ray Gibson, 72, died Friday, March 28, 2014 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC.The funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Chester A.R.P. Church with Rev. Clint Davis and Dr. Dwight Pearson officiating.The interment will be at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the home, 1227 Silverbrook Road, Chester, SC. Don may be viewed by friends at the funeral home during normal business hours on Monday or Tuesday. Born June 26, 1941 in Lowrys, SC, Mr. Gibson was a son of the late James and Pastel Connor Gibson.He was a graduate of Chester High School and York Technical College.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam Era as an MP.He was retired from Sun Chemical and also worked with Cotton Hill Farms and with his brother Bobby at West End Tire.He was a member of Chester A.R.P. Church and enjoyed woodworking as his hobby. He is survived by his wife of over fifty years, Peggy Brakefield Gibson; one daughter, Donna Charlene Gibson Beam of Chester; one son, Damon Ray Gibson and his wife April of Richburg, SC; three grandchildren, Bevin Denae Beam and Kasie LaRae Beam of Chester and Keegan Ray Gibson of Richburg; one great grandson, Aiden Lee Barkdull of Chester; one brother, Bobby Gibson and his wife Gwen of Chester; one sister, Betty Edlis and her husband Steve of Lady Lake, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
