Donald "Donnie" Ervin Hunter

Donald Ervin “Donnie” Hunter, 79, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Levine Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC.

Born in Rock Hill, SC, on October 31, 1945, Donnie was one of seven children of the late George Washington Hunter and the late Myrtle Bowers Hunter.

He was a proud Vietnam War veteran, enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1967. After his military service, he returned to Rock Hill and worked for many years at Rock Hill Printing and Finishing. He later made his home in Chester, SC, where he became an active member of Faith Independent Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Josephine “Jo” Adams Hunter; his son, Donald Roy Hunter; and his sisters, Nancy Lowery and Brenda Jewell “Judy” Kennedy.

He is survived by his sisters: Diane Westbrook of Rock Hill, SC; Joyce Collins of Rock Hill, SC; and Iris Trader of Florence, SC; a brother, George “Mickey” Hunter (Libby) of Rock Hill, SC; his stepdaughter, Robin Wages Owens (Roger) and two step-granddaughters, Julia Owens and Lily Owens.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the members of Faith Independent Baptist Church who supported Donnie during his illness, as well as the hospice nurses, social workers, and support staff at Via Health Partners for their compassionate care.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 23 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m., at Faith Independent Baptist Church, 1903 J.A. Cochran Bypass, Chester, SC 29706.

Memorials may be made in Donnie’s memory to Faith Independent Baptist Church or to Via Health Partners Hospice, 7845 Little Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28226.
