Chester Mr. David Thomas McAbee, III, 77, died Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at his home.Graveside services with full fire honors will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Chester Memorial Gardens with Rev. Steve Bishop officiating.The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service. Mr. McAbee was born August 21, 1943 in Spartanburg, SC and was a son of the late David T. McAbee, Jr. and Anna Russell McAbee.He was a graduate of Chester High School.Mr. McAbee served with the Chester Fire Department for 30 years and served as Chief for 15 years.He was a former member of the Chester Civitans and a life member of the State Fire Association.He was an avid football fan, played softball and enjoyed camping and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Daphine Ballard McAbee; three daughters, Anita Jeanes (husband, Dennis), Michelle Smith (husband, Gary) and Kimberly Starnes all of Chester; eight grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. Mr. McAbee was preceded in death by his grandson, Scott L. Jeanes.
