Mr. Dan C. Smith, 92, died Friday, January 5, 2018 in Clinton, SC.A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Uriel Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Jason Myers officiating.The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie Street Chester, SC. Born February 12, 1925 in Spartanburg, SC, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Edward Mason Smith and Carrie Sue West.He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the 81st Wildcat division in the Pacific theater.Mr. Smith was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1950, and subsequently pursued a fulfilling career in accounting being employed by Dun & Bradstreet, Charlotte NC; Jackson’s CPA firm, Clover SC; Wilkerson Oil Company, Rock Hill SC; Consolidated Engravers, Charlotte NC; and ultimately retiring from Zenith Engraving, Chester SC.Mr. Smith was the consummate husband, father, and grandfather; often exclaiming that one of his main purposes in life was to be the best grandfather he could be to his grands.Even though family was his first love, horses had a special place in his heart as Mr. Smith was an avid horseman.In addition to riding and taking care of a small horse farm, he also loved gardening, golf, and square dancing.He was a member of Purity Presbyterian Church, and often served as church treasurer, auditor, deacon, and Sunday school teacher throughout his church life. He is survived by two sons, Dan A Smith (Cindy) of Odessa, FL and David B Smith of Clover, SC; two step-daughters,Jennie Rush (Bob) ofColumbia, SC and Elizabeth Alba (Tim) of Charlotte, NC; one step-son, Lex Weston Wilkes Jr., of Leeds, SC;six grandchildren, Lauren Lopez (Julio) and Emily Smith, Scott Rush, Brittany Rush, Rebecca Alba, Caroline Alba; one great grandson, Mason Lopez; one brother, Sidney Smith (Lynn) of Charlotte NC; and one niece and nephew.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marian Baker Smith, married for twenty six years; and his second wife, Elizabeth Wilkes Smith, married for thirty four years.
