Damien Whisonant, age 11, went to rest in the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 20, 2024. He is the 9th of 10 children. He is survived by his parents, Charlie and Rebecca Whisonant, 9 siblings: Ryon, Nicholas, Nathanael, Alexandra, Annette, Isaac, Amelia, Dominic, and AnaClaire; his grandparents: Al and Susan Whisonant of Rock Hill and Robert and Jane Worley of Roaring Gap, NC; great-grandmother, Ruby Whisonant of Rock Hill; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Damien was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chester, SC. He enjoyed serving as an altar boy during Mass. He was homeschooled and usually the first child to greet his mother in the morning, wanting to get started on his math. He loved football and was excited to play his first game this spring with the SC Spartans football team. Damien was a huge Clemson fan and was often seen wearing a Clemson shirt or hat (usually backwards). Damien loved the outdoors, running around barefoot, and working around his family farm, growing his watermelons and cantaloupes as well as helping with the animals. He loved music and was excited to start learning to play the guitar. He was a fun-loving, energetic kid who loved swimming, the beach, hiking, and playing with his siblings, friends, and cousins. In typical brother fashion, he was both irritating and affectionate towards his siblings. You could always count on Damien to make you smile with his silly faces and antics. Our hearts are broken, but we know that he has been made new in Christ. He is gone too soon and will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Visitation will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 708 St Michaels Ln, Gastonia, NC 28052, from 5pm - 7pm on Sunday May 26, 2024 followed by a rosary at 7pm. The funeral Mass will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Gastonia, on Monday May 27, 2024 at 10am followed by a reception at the church. Burial will be private.
