Chester Mr. Clyde Lee Nelson, Jr., 82, died Thursday, November 12, 2015, at Chester Regional Medical Center.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 15, 2015, at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Bishop and Rev. Kevin Taylor officiating.Interment will follow in Union Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 15, at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester, SC. Mr. Nelson was born December 26, 1932 in Union, SC and was a son of the late Clyde L. Nelson, Sr. and Janie Hawkins Nelson.He was a graduate of Union High School, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Newberry College and his Masters of Education and Doctorate of Education degrees from the University of South Carolina.Mr. Nelson was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served during the Korean War.He retired from the Chester County School system as Assistant Superintendent.He was a member and treasurer of the Marine Corps League, treasurer of the Good Samaritan Clinic and a former member of the Rotary Club.Mr. Nelson was a member of Chester Freedom Ministries. He is survived by his wife Nira Dill Haney Nelson; one son, Clyde L. “Butch” Nelson, III (Catherine) of Spartanburg, SC; two grandchildren, Clyde L. Nelson, IV of Philadelphia, Pa. and Andrew Shane Nelson of Spartanburg, SC; two step daughters, Terri Canine (Bill) of Atlanta, Ga. and Kimberly Haney Buddington (Mike) of Union, SC; one step son, Harry “Tony” Haney, Jr. (Amy) of Boling Springs, SC; three step grandchildren, Matthew, Betsy and Blake; and two step great-grandchildren, Jack and Scarlett.
