CHESTER, SC: Mr. Charles Lavon “Skip” Bates, 61, died July 26, 2017 at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM– 8:00 PM Friday, July 28, 2017 at Barron Funeral Home.The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. David Sealy and Rev. Jeff Gullish officiating with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Born December 4, 1955 in Jacksonville, Florida, Skip was a son of the late Charles Milton Bates, Jr and Dorothy Mae Brown Bates.He was a graduate of Chester High School and was employed with South Carolina Department of Transportation and Bi-Lo.He was formerly employed with Superior Essex for over twenty-seven years.Skip was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he enjoyed being a part of anything that would enhance the ministry of the church.He also enjoyed being Santa’s Helper. He is survived by his wife of over seventeen years, Patricia Jean Gregory-Bates; two sons, Robert Shaun Bates (Jamie) of Edgemoor, SC and MichaelScott Bates (Tricia) of Chester; a special grandson, Jacob Trent Bates of Edgemoor, SC; one brother, Howard Lee Bates (Diana) of Rock Hill, SC and one sister, Vera Ozell Beach (Larry) of Huntsville, Alabama.
