Betty Brown Young

Chester, SC:Betty B. Young 92, passed away at her home peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning June 27, 2021. A Graveside Service will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Chester Memorial Gardens with Father Bill officiating. The family will receive friends at the Young home on Skyline Drive. Betty loved the Lord, her family, her church and Clemson Football. She was a trailblazer having graduated from Winthrop College in 1950 with a degree in Chemistry. She also graduated from Honea Path High School in Honea Path, SC.Her career included teaching Chemistry, working in the lab at Hoechst-Celanese and managing vital records at the Chester County Health Department in Chester. Many adults born in Chester County will find her “autograph” on their birth certificate. She retired from the Chester County Health Department and was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Chester. Betty was born in Atlanta, GA and was the daughter of the late O.C. Brown, Jr. and his wife Ruth. She married the love of her life John Lyles Young, whom she loved deeply even after his passing in 1983. She is survived by two children, Janice Brawley and Patrick Young (Sonia) all of Chester; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one brother, O.C. Brown, III of Jacksonville, Fl.
