Betty Jean Grant Boulware, 94, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, Monday, October 13, 2025 in Lancaster, South Carolina. She was born June 16, 1931 in Chester, South Carolina to the late Nannie Lucille and Benjamin Grant, and was married to the late Frank L. Boulware.
Mrs. Boulware loved to share memories of growing up on a farm with her eight siblings and attending a one room school house before moving on to graduate from Chester Senior High School in 1950. After graduation, she worked at McCrorey’s Dime Store and later worked as a cashier at the A&P grocery store where she was a familiar face to many for over 40 years.
She enjoyed spending time shopping, crafting, and eating out at restaurants with her sisters in her later years. Having lost two of her four children during their adulthood, Mrs. Boulware was an inspiration to many with her faith in God and love for life. When asked how she continued on, she replied, “I live for the children”.
Most recently, she enjoyed helping her daughter provide care for her great grandchildren in her home and found joy in every single moment. Always finding fun games to play and crafts to make, she was truly the very best MawMaw.
Mrs. Boulware was survived by her two daughters Jean Neal of the home and Judy Williford (Bryan) of Martinez, GA; one sister, Mary Frances Poole of Richburg, SC; seven grandchildren Jolie Saunders (David), Jenna Humphries (Jonathan), Dolly Neese (Chris), Jantson Neal (Erica), Will McCurry (Becky), Frank McCurry, and Janie Grace Neal (Sam); six great grandchildren, Cheyenne Williford, Greyson Williford, Chance Robinson, Kippy Flinchum, Chase Neal, Fletcher Humphries, and Josie-Kate Humphries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Frank L. Boulware, her son, Roger Boulware, and her daughter, Janice Gregory. She was also preceded in death by six of her siblings, Lucille Akery, Dorothy Adkins, Barbara (Sissy) Gibson, Edward Grant, Wallace Grant, Alvin Grant, and William (Billy) Grant.
A memorial service will be held at Barron Funeral Home in Chester, SC at 11:00 a.m. and will be officiated by Reverend Reggie Parker with a graveside service following at Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.
