Betty Entrekin Baker

MATTHEWS, NC: Betty Entrekin Baker, age 83 of Matthews, NC entered peacefully through the gates of heaven on Wednesday, Februrary 25th, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.Betty was born January 18, 1932 to the late Rev. Gene and Sular Entrekin in Charlotte, NC. Betty leaves to cherish her memory, her loving family, husband of 62 years, Heath Baker; daughters, Cindy Pope (Earl) and Chris Kelly (Mark), both of Charlotte, NC; Melodie Tate (Joe) of Chester, SC; her son, Alan Baker who preceded her in death;her 10 grandchildren, Heather, Courtney, Lauren, Meredith, Caitlin, Zachary, Haley, Mallory, Jackson and Brayden; and her great granddaughter, Rylie, who will miss their Maw Maw and all the good times spent with her. Betty was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, NC and after having her four children stayed at home to raise her family.She went to work for Forms & Supply, where she retired, but that was only temporary. She took another job with Hynes Sales as a Merchandising Manager where she enjoyed traveling and meeting many people. Betty was a faithful member of Idlewild Baptist Church and spent her life worshiping the Lord through missions work, children and teen programs and music.She had a beautiful voice and loved playing the piano.Betty and her best friend, Gin enjoyed shopping and playing golf together.She and her family spent many good times at the family beach house where lots of memories were made.Betty was happiest when surrounded by her family. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 28th from 11:30am to 1:30pm with the funeral to follow at 2:00pm at Idlewild Baptist Church, Matthews, NC.Interment is at Sharon Memorial Park following the service. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at White Oak Manor-Waxhaw, NC for taking such good care of Betty and becoming part of our family for the past four years.Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215, Hospice and Palliative Care-Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 and the music program at Idlewild Baptist Church, 12701 Idlewild Road, Matthews, NC 28105. Arrangements are in the care of Barron Funeral Home, Chester, SC.
