Chester Mrs. Barbara Carpenter Dodds Allen, 81, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at her home.The funeral service will be held at2:00 PM on Friday, September 14, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. David Sealy officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 13, at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester, SC 29706. Mrs. Allen was born January 20, 1931 in Atlanta, Georgia and was a daughter of the late Ernest J. Carpenter and Mary Ruth Smith Carpenter.She attended the schools of Georgia and was retired from Springs Industries and Chester County School District where she worked in the cafeteria.Mrs. Allen was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and outdoor gardening. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Luther D. Allen; two sons, Claude Dodds and wife Becky of Davenport, Nebraska and Wayne Dodds and wife Rita of Chester; one daughter, Mary Dodds Smith and husband Heyward of Chester; one step-son, James N. Allen and wife Debbie of Lancaster; two step-daughters, Robin Hawhee and husband Robbie of Franklin, Indiana and Rosa Harris and husband Walter of New Mexico; 15 grandchildren, Richie Morrison of Chester, Angie Leonard of Blackstock, Karen Turner of Chester, Anna Laws of Fort Lawn, Christy Ferrell of Summerville, Cindy Anthony and Laura Watts of Chester, Lisa Sanpair of Raleigh, NC, Claude “Buddy” Dodds of Indiana, Kim Grant and Amber Dodds of Chester, Carolyn Hawhee of Franklin, Indiana, Robert Harris of New Mexico, Mariah Harris of New Mexico, and Beth Allen of Lancaster, SC,Tanya Ptacnikand Josh Hanson both of Davenport, Nebraska; 23 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her first husband, Claude Wylie Dodds.
