Mr. Anthony Joseph Sudol, 93, of the Fishing Creek community of Chester County, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Wayne T. Patrick House surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church with Reverend Don Simpson officiating. Interment will be held in the church cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends in the social hall of the church immediately following the interment. Mr. Sudol was born in Wallington, NJ on May 29, 1920 and early in his childhood moved to Jewett City, CT.Tony was a son of the late Stanley Peter Sudol andCatherine Marie Olejarz Sudol.He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, was a graduate of Norwich Academyand was retired from Cone Mills with over 20 years of service.He was a WWII veteran serving in the 591st Engineer Combat Group as a Combat Telephone and Telegraph Lineman.During his service, he was part of seven major campaigns in Europe and Northern Africa.In 2012, he was honored to participate in the Honor Flight Program on a trip to Washington, D.C. along with other local veterans.He was a lifelong member of the VFW. Before entering the Army, Tonybegan his career in the Textile industry with Indian Head Mills as a printer.He chose to continue his printing career in Hartsville, South Carolina, where the Textile industry was booming. Tony was a member of the Machine Printers and Engravers Association of the United States. He met the love of his life, started a family and later moved to the Fishing Creek community of Chester County to raise his three children.Tony spent his retirement years farming, gardening and raising beef cattle.He always found time to spend with his grandchildren often fishing the ponds or visiting the cows. Tony loved God, his family and his country.He will always be remembered for his smiling face, wonderful personality, great sense of humor and his love of music which was very often displayed when he broke out in song or pulled out his instrument of choice,the harmonica. In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by three sisters – Rose Legault, Frances Nowakowski and Mary Sudol all of Connecticut – and a grandson, Mark Joseph Sudol of Clover.He is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 55 years, Martha Hicklin Sudol; daughter, Fran Sudol Hutchins (Aysan Cangiray) of Rock Hill; sons, Anthony Joseph Sudol, Jr. (Kim) of York and Charles William Sudol (Linda) of Chester; Grandchildren, Melissa Susan Sudol and Paul Anthony Sudol of Clover and Katherine Elizabeth Sudol of Chester; Brother, Stanley Sudol, Lisbon, CT; Sisters, Josephine Belanger, Jewett City, CT and Agnes Holowatz, Griswold, CT and numerous nieces and nephews.Tony always made a friend wherever he went and will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
