Alan David DuPas

Alan David DuPas, 57, died Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Barron Funeral Home with visitation from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.  Interment will be at a later date in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC.

Alan was born June 27, 1968 in Los Angeles, CA.  He graduated from Chester Christian School in Chester, SC in 1986.  Alan was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving proudly until 1995 on the nuclear submarine USS Narwhal (SSN 761) as a nuclear electronics technician.  He went to York Tech before graduating from Winthrop University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science in 1998.  Alan worked with Duke Energy in Charlotte as an application analyst for five years.  Later, he began working at Winthrop University in 2008 as a user support technician in Computing and Informational Technology Services for 18 years until his death.

Alan was a sports enthusiast.  He enjoyed all sports with soccer being his favorite.  He enjoyed watching it on TV and going to matches. He loved his family; especially his cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was known for his unique and dry, quirky  sense of humor which people loved about him.  Alan was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Maria and Tom West of Chester, SC; brothers, Peter West (Tammy) of Newton, NC and Eli West (Carissa) of Elberton, GA; a sister, Eva Rose West of Lincolnton, NC; uncles, Ronald West of Darien, GA, Albert Friedrichs (Diane) of CA, George Friedrichs (Sharon) of CA, Ronald Morgan (Judi) of CA and Rev. Donald J. West of Thomasville, GA; an aunt, Janet Thompson (Mark) of Blackstock, SC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Alan was preceded in death by his father, Robert DuPas and his uncle, Dwight Anderson.
