May 15, 1952 - January 9, 2021
Chester Master Gunnery Sergeant (Ret.) Robert (Bob) George Desrosiers, 68, husband of Kim Carter Desrosiers entered peacefully into eternal rest early on the morning of January 9, 2021. The son of the late George E. and Constance Leveilee Desrosiers, Bob was born on May 15, 1952 in Warwick, Rhode Island. Living his early life in Coventry, Rhode Island with his parents and sister, Jeanne, he was the typical rambunctious boy. At the age of 17, he made one of the greatest decisions of his life, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Serving in Motor Transport, Bob retired after 22 years of service as a Master Gunnery Sergeant, which he felt was his greatest accomplishment. He was stationed various places including Camp Lejeune, NC, Norfolk, VA, Okinawa, Charleston, SC, and Yuma, AZ. After his military retirement in 1992, Bob settled in Chester, SC. Living in a small town where everyone knew everyone, he affectionately became known as “Yankee Bob”. Bob never met a stranger and people were immediately drawn to his wonderful personality. Bob loved to laugh and have fun. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and made many friends anywhere he rode. He worked at various jobs while living in Chester, finally retiring after a career of over 10 years in maintenance at the Chester Metropolitan Water District. Bob had to be busy, yet he enjoyed sitting and reading. He loved working in his shop and being outside. He developed a great love for old country music and enjoyed attending the concerts. He enjoyed traveling with his wife. Bob just enjoyed living life to the fullest. He loved his church family at Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed the fellowship meals each Wednesday. Bob was a wonderful father who was proud of his children and their accomplishments. He loved seeing his grandchildren and receiving their phone calls would always brighten his day. Bob considered himself one of the lucky ones who witnessed his great-grandchildren and what joy they brought to his life. He is survived by his wife Kim, sons: Jason (Susan) Desrosiers of Cranston, Rhode Island and Jeremy (Jeffrey) Desrosiers of Orlando, Florida; two daughters Rebecca (Tony) Desrosiers of Swansboro, NC and Marcie (Josh) Thaxter of Asheville, NC; grandchildren: Nicole (Ryan) Patrick and Nikolas Dixon of West Warwick, Rhode Island, Taylor (Gabe) Ruiz of Rapid City, South Dakota, Addison Greene, Trinity Greene, and Hope Desrosiers all of Cranston, Rhode Island, Sophie & Lulu Thaxter of Asheville, NC, and Hannah Desrosiers of Swansboro, NC. Survivors also include his sister, Jeanne (Ray) Adams of Coventry, Rhode Island, In-laws, Earl and Linda Carter of Chester, SC and brother-in-law, Robert Earl (Mandy) Carter of Fort Mill, SC. Bob told everyone how fortunate he was to have two mothers-in-law. His wife, Shelia Boulware Desrosiers, preceded him in death. Her mother, Odell Boulware, became his “Southern Mother”. In addition to Shelia’s mother, he is survived by her family: son Scott (Michele)Boulware of Winnsboro; granddaughter, Sydney Boulware of Winnsboro; brother, Harold Boulware of Chester; and sister, Lisa (Phillip) Cooper of Lugoff.
