James Byron Crosby, 69, died Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Piedmont Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in Old Purity Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Barron Funeral Home. Born August 20, 1954 in Chester, SC, he was a son of the late Charlie Coleman Crosby and Clara Agee Black Crosby. Byron was a graduate of Chester High School. He was employed with SCDOT in road maintenance and formerly worked for Essex Wire for 33 years. Byron loved gardening and was known for his ability to grow beautiful vegetables. He was always tinkering around his house to make sure everything was in order. Byron was also dedicated to visiting and encouraging others that were in the nursing home, hospital or confined to their home. He was the love of Marlene’s life. He is survived by his wife of over 16 years, Marlene Royer Crosby; three stepsons, Chris Murrell (Michele) of Greer, SC, James Murrell (Lauryn) of Duncan, SC and Tommy Murrell, Jr. (Melissa) of Sanford, FL; five grandchildren, Chris, Jr., Gunnar, Emily, London and Lainey; three sisters, Debbie Jennings (Gary) of Chester, SC, Charleen Collins (Jack) of Greenwood, SC and Pat Foster (Larry) of Chester, SC; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved furry family, “Marley and Lexi”. In addition to his parents, Byron was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Crosby. Memorials may be made to Cancer of Many Colors, 100 Old Cherokee Rd., Ste. F #339, Lexington, SC 29072.
