Fork, SC: Mr. George Copeland Bridges, Jr., 84, died Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Fork, SC. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Shepard officiating.The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Barron Funeral Home. The interment will be in Chester Memorial Gardens. Born May 4, 1931 in Trenton, South Carolina, Mr. Bridges was a son of the late George C. and Sallie Marsh Bridges.George was educated in Chester County schools and graduated from Chester High School in 1951.He served in the US Navy and received the National Defense Service Metal.He graduated from the University of South Carolina and received a Masters Degree from the University of Virginia.He taught school in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia and worked at Peoples Furniture Company in Chester, SC.He was a life member of Chester Masonic Lodge #18 and was a Demolay.He wrote articles on fly fishing and was an avid fisherman. He is survived by one sister, Mae Lee Bridges Miller ofRoanoke, VA; two brothers, Walker Marsh Bridges and Samuel Belton Bridges both of Chester and several nieces and nephews.
